
On April 13, the Public Defender and the Council of National Minorities at the Public Defender’s Office met with the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Zurab Kharatishvili.
The meeting participants discussed the issues of participation of national minorities in the local self-government elections of May 30, 2010, translation of election materials and provision of national minorities with them, and full involvement of national minorities in the elections. The Council members recalled the violations reported during the last elections and expressed hope that the elections of May 30 will be organized much better.
The Chairman of the Central Election Commission pointed out that the election materials, brochures and posters, as well as informational videos prepared for the elections, will be translated into the Armenian and Azerbaijani languages and transmitted via regional TV channels.
The activities of the Council of National Minorities are carried out with the support of the UN Development Program and the European Center for Minority Issues.
