01 Jun'10 | 15 SCHOOLS IN SHIDA KARTLI AND KVEMO KARTLI REGIONS RECEIVE SPORTS AND CULTURAL INVENTORY

On June 1st, at 02:00PM within the frames of the "Stabilization and Integration of IDPs into mainstream Georgian Society" (SIIMS) project Sports and Cultural Inventory Handover Ceremony will be held at #12 Gori public school.

The recipients of the sports and cultural inventory are 15 public schools in Gori, Khashuri, Kareli, Kaspi, Marneuli and Gardabani municipalities. The inventory kit includes a music player in set, digital photo camera, a basketball shield, soccer balls, basketballs, disc cone, small cubes, volleyball net, chess, stopwatch, bump, T-shirts, etc.

The ceremony will be attended by Shida Kartli Governor, the senior officials of Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation of Georgia and those of the Ministry of Education and Science. Moreover, the representatives of the local authorities of Shida Kartli region, the senior managers of International and local Non-Governmental Organizations working on IDP issues will be also present.

“SIIMS project brings IDP and local youth together by helping them erase scars left by the war. One of the tools of supporting their psycho-social rehabilitation is arranging joint sports and cultural activities,” states Mr. Vakhtang Piranishvili, SIIMS Project Director.

The SIIMS project aims to help IDPs displaced after August ‘08 war and local impacted communities integrate into their new environment, using socio-economic opportunities to reduce poverty and conflict, which are aligned with local government services and structures. The project is jointly implemented by CARE Norway and CARE International in the Caucasus along with the partner organizations: Civil Development Agency (CiDA) in Georgia, IDP Women’s Association “Consent” and “Center for Training and Consultancy” (CTC).

The SIIMS is a three-year project launched in July 2009. It is financed by Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its total budget is 19 Million NOK (2.9 Million USD).
